The title for this section of the site is borrowed from a short story by the great American short story writer, Raymond Carver. Where I’m Calling From is in the collection Cathedral, published in 1983. Carver’s story’s are intense, bleak and sad. For what it’s worth, here is a quotation from Where I’m Calling From:
I go to the phone, put in a dime, and call my wife collect. But nobody answers this time, either. I think about calling my girlfriend, and I’m dialling her number when I realize I really don’t want to talk to her. She’s probably at home watching the same thing on TV that I’ve been watching. Anyway, I don’t want to talk to her. I hope she’s okay. But if she has something wrong with her, I don’t want to know about it.
